More About Harvest Drop

Organization Type: Foodhub

Customers:  Previously wholesale, pivoted to retail in March 2020

Website: harvestdrop.com

Joined us in 2017.

Harvest Drop is a foodhub based in the great state of New Jersey, and it was founded by Oliver Gubenko with a passion for – not just local – but quality food. He found a gap in the local wholesale market for selling produce to NJ restaurant. Once he was able to hook up the farmers to the chefs, the rest was history…until COVID-19 hit, and his entire business model had to change. Harvest Drop pivoted almost overnight from wholesale to retail, and LFM was there to help them do it.

“It feels good when you have smart people like LFM in your corner. You guys will take a call from me on a Sunday night. It’s not just the ability to customize, it’s that level of care. I know if I’m gonna hop on the phone with Amy, she knows and understands our needs. She’s smart, she’s gonna make suggestions, and she’s always able to help me in a really genuine way. LFM helps us make the software do what we need it to do. ”

More About WFM2Go

Organization Type: Farmers Market

Customers:  Consumer

Website: wfm2go.ca

Joined us in 2013.

WFM2Go is an extension of the beloved Wolfville Farmers’ Market in Nova Scotia. The original market started in 1992 with three vendors, and over the years they became a year-round market on Saturdays with over 65 farmers, chefs and artisan vendors and on Wednesdays with a Market Supper, community themes and live music. A couple years ago, Wolfville Farmers’ Market decided they wanted an online ordering presence, so they formed WFM2Go and launched using Local Food Marketplace’s software.

“We’re all about personal connection, and connecting over food. And LFM felt like one of us! LFM isn’t this huge corporation where I’m calling this 1-800 number…I just call Amy! I can just email and ask questions and …we just love working with you guys.” -Lindsay, WFM2Go

More About Three River Farmers Alliance

Organization Type: Food Hub

Customers:  Retail and wholesale

Website: threeriverfa.com

Joined us in 2015.

Three River Farmers Alliance is a farm collective serving the NH Seacoast region. They began in 2015 when Andre Cantelmo and Greg Balog of Heron Pond Farm realized that entering the wholesale market would require a lot of smaller farms to work together, so they formed Three River Farmers Alliance. They were early LFM users, but found a whole new use for the software during the COVID-19 shutdowns. They pivoted to a direct-to-consumer model with home delivery, using LFM, and business exploded.

“We reached out to LFM, and in two weeks, LFM created a way for us to create our routes, download our orders into a program (it’s Routific ) and then it uploads back into LFM and prints out the invoices in the right order and groups them by route.  It’s pretty cool [to get this feature] when it didn’t even exist two weeks ago! Working with a company like LFM – a company that’s willing to respond like that – I mean, that’s a lot easier than calling up somebody that just really wants you to buy some package and do it their way.”

Joined us in 2018.

Corbin Hill Food Project is a Harlem-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and social enterprise. In 2018 the organization implemented LFM to help increase their capacity for providing access to fresh, high quality, locally grown fruits and vegetables to low-income communities throughout New York City. Due to their unique business model, Corbin Hill Food Project needed a very flexible system, which they found with the LFM software platform. In addition to providing food access to individuals, Corbin Hill Food Project offers wholesale purchasing options to organizations and institutions in the NYC region seeking to improve the health of the communities they serve.

“Transitioning to the Local Food Marketplace platform has been a game-changer for Corbin Hill’s Farm Share program. It has allowed us to implement a sliding scale payment model to support lower-income Shareholders and has improved Shareholder retention. Additionally, the built-in reporting functions have made it easier to keep track of year to year data. The LFM team has been exceptional in hearing our concerns about previous iterations of the software and has implemented updates as a result of our feedback. They took a strong interest in understanding our challenges and developed solutions that work. I highly recommend LFM to anyone operating a flexible subscription-based program!”

Read the Queen’s Green’s Blog Interview

Queen’s Greens farm is located on 35 acres in Western Massachusetts. They grow certified organic vegetables, focusing production on gourmet greens, sold solely through boutique wholesale outlets, restaurants, and institutions in New England and New York. In 2016 Queen’s Greens implemented LFM to streamline their administrative operations. Now in 2019, their farm is saving up to 16 hours per week in administrative work solely due to LFM software. In addition, Queen’s Greens uses LFM as a single producer, as well as a producer for another LFM customer, Three Rivers Farm Alliance.

“Our time is so valuable, and it can only be spread so thin. For me, to free up maybe 15 hours a week that I used to spend handling order stuff, that is really important. I can now put those 15 hours somewhere else. Investing in LFM is totally worth it! Even if we were doing half the amount of wholesale we are doing now, or even less, it would still be 100% worth investing in. I just think that the time LFM has saved is invaluable.”
